Astrology signs in particular can be correlated to certain tarot cards. This helps the diviner when trying to learn about others, determining the significator of a layout, and even with timing in a layout.

I thought I'd learn a little bit about the connections of the Queen of Cups, The Moon and The Chariot while studying Astrology and the Tarot. All three are cards that either indicate the time period from late June to Mid July or someone with a Cancer birthday or Cancerian type temperament.

The Queen of Cups

Using the Queen of Cups in your layout or looking for this card is the easiest way to identify a Cancer person. It's most commonly associated with the astrology sign and a good card to pick as your significator if you are a Cancer.

Symbolically, the Queen of Cups represents many of the better aspects of the typical Cancer person. She is a loving mother and devoted to family, creative, emotional, protective, warm, and loyal. This person focuses on their home and family the most and values them the best of all.

Often she is presented as fair haired and introspective, sitting on her throne by the sea, holding an elaborate cup in hand. In tarot water represents emotion and the suit of cups holds this emotion within it's symbology laden meanings

Physically, the card can represent someone who looks like a Cancer type person. She has light hair, a round face and large eyes. The complexion may be pale, but obviously, not always.
If the card pops up in a reading and it doesn't represent yourself or another person it can mean a time when specific event will occur, late June to Mid-July. It may also be asking you to look at your emotions. Are you going to a particularly emotional period? It usually shows up during a time when emotions are building up in the questioner.

The Chariot and Moon

These Major Arcana cards are connected with Cancer. It's easy for me to see the connection through the Moon card, as the moon is the ruling planet of Cancer. The Moon card often represents illusion, imagination, animal instinct, deception, nightmares and dreams and the physic realm.

The moon itself dominates the imagery of this card, floating above a wolf and a dog, creatures which represent wild animal and domestication. Between them is a road or path leading into the unknown and in the forefront of the card a crayfish crawling up out of water, a symbol of emotion and creativity. The Moon could almost represent the dark, shadowy side of Cancer.

The Chariot's connection to the sign is a little harder to see. In the card imagery you'll often see a man guiding a chariot, lead by two sphinxes or horses, one black and one white. Behind him the sky is bright yellow and if you look for it there are usually a pair of crescent moons hidden in the image.

Often, the symbology represents a balance between opposites. There are two animals working together to pull the chariot, one is black and one is white. The sun and the moon are represented somewhere within the card. It's all about finding a balance within yourself or within your life and working to maintain that balance, which at times may be difficult. The charioteer must be determined, motivated and well armed or armored, like the crab in order to keep up with his task.

I found the connections in these cards to astrology to be very interesting. The Queen of Cups is Cancer, but she's soft, warm and loving. The Moon is also Cancer, but it's dark, shadowy and instinctive, while the Chariot is determined, armored almost as if for battle. It reveals some aspects to the astrology sign which I never before considered.
